Scott M. Minnich, Sr.

Owner

Scott M. Minnich, Sr., born January 10, 1946, in Hagerstown, Maryland, graduated from South Hagerstown High School and earned his Mortuary Science degree from AAMI in New York. He returned home to join the family funeral business with his father and uncle.
He was married to the late D. Diona Wallers Minnich, and they had two sons, Frank and Scott Jr., both involved in the business, along with five grandchildren.
Scott is an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and several local and professional organizations. He is dedicated to serving his community and continuing his family’s tradition of compassionate care.
He enjoys trains and antique automobiles.

Supervising Mortician

Scott is the son of Scott M. Minnich, Sr. and the late D. Diona Minnich and represents the fifth generation to operate the funeral home. He lives with his wife, Samelia, their daughter Alice, and her son Tyler Schapper; his son Andrew also works at the funeral home.
A 1998 graduate of South Hagerstown High School, Scott earned a degree in Mortuary Science from Catonsville Community College and became a licensed funeral director in 2005. He also studied Lighting and Design at Shenandoah University before joining the funeral home full-time.
Scott is committed to serving families with compassion and respect and is an active member of the Hagerstown Rotary Club.

James L. Spicer

Mortician

James L. Spicer, a longtime Hagerstown resident born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1984 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout that same year.
He holds degrees in Business Administration from Hagerstown Community College (1986) and Shepherd University (1989), and in Mortuary Science from Catonsville Community College (1992).
Jim has worked at Minnich Funeral Home since high school and lives in Hagerstown with his wife, Christy. He is a member of Maranatha Brethren Church, the National Eagle Scout Association, and the Izaak Walton Club.

Stefanie A. Broadhurst

Mortician

Stefanie A. Broadhurst, born in Columbia, Maryland, graduated from Saint John’s Catholic Preparatory High School in 2009. After studying pharmacy at Notre Dame of Maryland University, she earned her Mortuary Science degree from the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville in 2013.
A lifelong scout and active volunteer, Stefanie attends Cedar Ridge Community Church. She is an avid climber and outdoor enthusiast, and a member of the American Alpine Club, Mid Atlantic Climbers, and the Access Fund.

W. Phil Pearce

Staff Position

W. Phil Pearce, born in Raleigh, North Carolina, graduated from Wake Forest High School in 1965 and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1967. He is licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Maryland, and has managed funeral homes in both Carolinas, including opening one in Charleston.
He lives with his wife, Deborah, a nurse practitioner with Frederick Health. Phil is a member of the Hagerstown Elks Lodge and the Masons, and he and Deborah attend Greencastle Presbyterian Church.

Matthew Alsop

Staff Position

Matthew brings six years of experience in the funeral industry, demonstrating both dedication and professionalism in his work. As a Certified Crematory Operator, he has developed a strong understanding of the care and responsibility required in serving families during difficult times. Currently pursuing an education in Mortuary Science, Matthew is working toward becoming a licensed funeral director. His passion for the profession is evident in his commitment to growth, compassion, and providing meaningful service to those he serves.

Jessica Hatch

Staff Position

Jessica has served as a secretary at Minnich Funeral Home for over six years, providing caring and dependable support to both families and staff. She works behind the scenes to help everything run smoothly and to offer a supportive presence for the families they serve.
In her free time, Jessica is a devoted mother of a daughter and son. She enjoys cooking, spending time outdoors, and, as a breast cancer survivor of more than 10 years, cherishes time with her family, her partner and their dog.

Christian Bud Bikle

Staff Position

Bud has been a dedicated funeral attendant with the funeral home for the past 10 years,
offering steady support and reliability in serving families. Known for his quiet
commitment and strong work ethic, he plays an important role in ensuring services run
smoothly. Outside of work, Bud enjoys spending time riding motorcycles and taking in
the beauty of the great outdoors.
