Willie Blount was born on Wednesday, May 9, 1951, in Robeson County, North Carolina, to Bishop George Blount, Sr., and Elizabeth Blount. At the age of three, his family moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he was raised and where he built the foundation of his life. Brooklyn became the place where he grew, created lifelong friendships, met the love of his life, and built his family.

Willie was a hardworking and dedicated man who proudly served as a plumber and electrician at Kingsborough Psychiatric Center in Brooklyn, New York, before retiring in 2010. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, generosity, humor, and willingness to help others.

Family was the center of Willie’s life. He was the beloved husband of Wyanda Lorraine Blount, whom he loved deeply for 51 years, with over 40 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful legacy of love, commitment, and family.

Known affectionately as “Uncle Will”, he was a man who brought people together. He created countless memories through family gatherings, community events, cookouts, outings, and traditions. He was intentional about keeping his family connected and proudly established the annual family reunion held every first Saturday in August…a tradition that continues today as his family gathers to honor his life and legacy.

Willie was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Wyanda Lorraine Blount, and his 14 children: Willie Thornton-Blount, Sharia Thornton, Lawanda Innocent, Samone Williams, Shanese Blount, William Jamal Blount, Nakima Picart, Brenda Franklin, Latonda Thornton, Tashima Thornton, Unique Woodfin, Elizabeth Thornton, Anthony Blount, and Josie Frazier.

He was also blessed with 43 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry his name, values, stories, and love for generations to come.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bishop George Blount Sr. and Elizabeth Blount; siblings Joseph Blount, Christine Fitts, Elizabeth McNeil, Goldie Hinton, Robert Blount, Eris Blount, Shirley Blount, and Kathy Pearl Blount; and his beloved daughters, Josie Frazier and Elizabeth Thornton.

Willie fought a courageous fight until the end. Even through his health challenges, his heart remained focused on caring for others, especially his beloved wife. His strength, love, laughter, wisdom, and generosity left an unforgettable impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

On July 17, 2026, Willie Bount transitioned from this earthly life into eternal rest. His voice, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue through the lives he touched.

A viewing will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.

A Celebration of Life and Legacy will follow at 2pm on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Minnich Funeral Home with Bishop Mitch Robinson officiating.

A Repast following the service at 5pm will be held at The Fit Room, 532 N. Cannon Ave., Hagerstown, MD.
