WILLIAM THOMAS WALTER, 70, of Marshall Street, Hagerstown, Maryland, died Friday, October 7, 2011 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Born May 23, 1941 in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Julia Mickey Walter. He was a 1959 graduate of Reading High School, where he played basketball for Hall of Fame Coach, Pete Carill. He was a salesman for Value City Furniture retiring in 2008. He loved working with wood and was a master carpenter. Bill was an avid golfer. He was a former coach for National Little League and Washington County Jr. Basketball League. He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Mary L. Demmitt Walter; a daughter, Marjorie Remlinger of Reading PA; a son, Timothy D. Walter of Chambersburg, PA; a step-son, Michael T. Miller of Hagerstown, MD; a sister, Norlaine Schafer of Fletcher, NC; a brother, Harry "Skip" Walter of Hamburg PA; six grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. James Nirappell will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests the omission of flowers.
