William Walter
Rudisill
Nov 4, 1935 — Mar 3, 2025
William Walter (Walt) Rudisill, 89, crossed over into Heaven on March 3, 2025 in Williamsport, MD.
Walt was born on November 14, 1935 in Hagerstown, and was the son of the late William Rudisill and Addie Walker.
In his youthful years, he spent much time playing basketball at the original Hagerstown YMCA and going to see movies at the theater. He was raised with his brother, Earl, by his loving grandmother, Ethel, and his father. Walt graduated from Hagerstown High School, class of 1953.
His career resume as an engineer is extensive. In his early working years, he was employed as an airplane mechanic at Fairchild, working on plane control panels. He then worked at Frederick Electronics, which led to a temporarily relocation of his family to Yuma, AZ in 1962. There, he worked with the Federal Government on an undisclosed unmanned plane program. This project was the pride of his career, and he frequently told stories to his granddaughters about his time in Yuma. Walt finished his career working at Mack Truck.
While working and providing for his family, Walt earned an associates degree in Business Administration from Hagerstown Junior College in 1986 and earned his bachelors degree in Business Administration from Frostburg State University in the early 90s.
Walt was an active member in the Hagerstown community. He was a Boy Scouts leader in the late 1950s. He was a member of the Hagerstown Elks for about 50 years. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord through the St. John's Lutheran Church choir and teaching scripture to various Sunday school classes since 1976.
Walt was a gifted student and hard worker. He dedicated his life to engineering and math, spending many many hours working on his projects. He loved to travel and learn of different cultures. He had a hunger for learning, teaching, and understanding, especially in STEM. This was evident even in his very last days.
Above all else, he loved fiercely. His family meant absolutely everything to him. You'd frequently see him holding a granddaughter with one arm while peeking at the Herald Mail in his other hand. He had overwhelming love for his wife, who he spent his later years caring for. They were married for over 67 years. He spent his last year completing his research on his family ancestry and visiting burial plots of family in New York state.
Walt is survived by his daughter, Cathy Marshall and husband John Marshall, ganddaughters Nicole Keener and husband Chris Keener, Natalie Rudisill and fiancé Nick Belkoff, great grandchildren Amaya Pettner, Chase Keener, and Sierra Paugh, great great grandson Rosco Paugh, and too many loving nieces and nephews to name.
He was preceded in death by wife, Gloria (Glo) Rudisill, son, Douglas Rudisill, and brother, Earl Rudisill.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 11:00am at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Bill Divelbiss will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 7th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Minnich Funeral Home.
