William "Bill" Robinson Luther, Jr., 66, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away at Doeys House in Hagerstown and went home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2020. Born September 8, 1954, Bill was the son of Louise Elizabeth (Britner) Luther. Bill graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1972. Bill began driving tractor-trailers while working for Tri-State Tank Lines, Inc. in Hagerstown, Maryland, the company began in 1946 by his grandfather, Frank H. Luther, Sr. Subsequently, Bill worked at and retired from the Hagerstown Block Company as a driver and then as a dispatcher; Bill was treated like one of the family members that owned it. Bill was once given a childs cowboy hat and holster with gun by his employer for the way that Bill could "get the gears like a cowboy" driving his truck through the block yard at the Block Company. Bill loved driving trucks especially in bad weather. Bill once said, "Anyone can drive a tractor trailer in good weather, it takes a professional to drive a tractor trailer on snow covered mountain roads to Luke, Maryland." Bill was a member of the Alsatia Club, Inc. since 1976. Bill was also a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Funkstown, Maryland. In addition to his mother, Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Rae (Kline) Luther, whom he married June 21, 1975; one daughter, Meghan Leigh Luther, and granddaughter, Alexis Jenkins, of Hagerstown, Maryland, one son, William Robinson Luther, III, and his partner, Jennifer Young, and Bills 3-month old grandson, William Robinson Luther, IV of Boonsboro, Maryland. Bill is also survived by twin sisters (and their children), Carol Knight and husband Cregory of Hagerstown, Maryland, Cindy Hutzell of Williamsport, Maryland; nephews, Dustin Knight of Hagerstown, Maryland and Derrick Hutzell of Clear Spring, Maryland; nieces, Kami Knight McEntee of Hagerstown and Fawn Hutzell McManus of New Market, Maryland, his mother-in-law, Ravenna Lee Kline, and two other nieces, a nephew and multiple great nieces and nephews. Bill had many special friends and visitors that were like family to him which the family would like to acknowledge and thankthey are too numerous to name individually, but we believe they know who they are. Bill was welcomed to his heavenly home by those who preceded him in death, grandparents, Preston A. Britner, Jr. and Elizabeth (Schamel) Britner, and Frank H. Luther, Sr. and Eleanor Robinson Luther, father-in-law, Richard Lewis Kline, and other relatives and friends. At his request, Bill donated his body to the State Anatomy Board-Maryland. Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, a Celebration of Life to honor this exceptional man will be held at a later date with notice to appear in the Herald Mail. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 148, Funkstown, MD 21734 or to the Alsatia Club Inc., 141 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740. As a result of Bills battle with Multiple Sclerosis since the early 1980s, Bill became a resident of the Western Maryland Hospital Center in 1999. The family wishes to thank its staff for their excellent loving care given to Bill (the "Mayor" of the Center) during his 21 years of care while there. When you said you were there to visit Bill, it became unnecessary to also say his last name; they knew who you meant. Bill could usually be found in the computer lab. Bill was also an advocate for the other patients who could not speak for themselves. Bill always wore a pin that stated, "Attitude Is Everything." And what a great attitude Bill had for the circumstances he experienced!
