WILLIAM MCKINLEY NICHOLS, JR., 88, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown. Born on September 21, 1916, he was the son of the late William M. Nichols, Sr. and Frances Williamson Nichols. He was raised by Martha Ellen Butts Nichols. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Irene Schroyer Nichols. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army in the 98th Army Coast Artillery. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was retired from the City of Hagerstown where he worked as a meter reader. He was a carpenter for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Friendly Circle Sunday School Class, and worked on the Community Service Committee. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy A. Watson of Williamsport, Maryland; one son, Kenneth E. Nichols of Severn, Maryland; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy A. Nichols; and two brothers, John Arthur Nichols and Herbert W. Nichols. Services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Myersville, Maryland. Family will receive friends at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown on Friday from 7 to 9 p. m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21742, or the charity of one's choice.
