WILLIAM "BILL" RICKETTS, 88, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Julia Manor Health Care Center. He was born October 16, 1926 at his family home in The Plains, Virginia. He was the son of the late George D. and Lillian Lambdon Ricketts. He graduated from Aldie High School in 1944 and immediately went into the U. S. Navy and served on a Liberty Ship in the South Pacific during World War II. He was discharged in June 1946 and attended Bluefield College and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in June 1951. The day before his graduation he married Pauline R. Ritz in Clintwood, VA. Bill worked in construction all his life, first managing road construction and later selling construction equipment. He retired as Executive Vice President from Powlen Equipment Company in 1996. In his retirement he enjoyed golfing with the MYSCA group at Beaver Creek Country Club. He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and Elks Lodge 378. Bill is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Pauline Ricketts; two daughters, Lillian Meyers and husband, Ernie and Rev. Dr. Mary Ricketts; two sons, Roger Ricketts and Henry Ricketts; one brother, George D. Ricketts and wife, Jean; his grandchildren, Ernest Meyers, Jr. and wife, Shelly and Andrew Meyers, Jessica Waugh and husband Dan, Taylor Ricketts and wife Summer, Bryan and Nathan Willis; and great grandchildren, Zachary and Anisten and Shawn Meyers. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 North Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. L. Patrick Ricker will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday at the church one hour prior to the service.
