Obituary

WILLIAM EDWARD BECKLEY, 82, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at his home. Born April 3, 1933 in Downsville, MD, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Margaret Esther Shafer Beckley. William was an active member of Salem Reformed Church involved in a variety of projects and committees. He began his truck driving career driving as a pre-teen for Maugansville Elevator Co. He later drove for several trucking companies. William, for the past 22 years drove truck for the Alleghany Contracting Company of Hagerstown. For 22 years, William had been employed with The Herald-Mail. He was a past Union President of the Herald-Mail. William was also actively engaged in farming his entire life. William is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice Louise Hutson; two sons, Douglas Alan Beckley of Hagerstown, and Stephen Edward Beckley and wife, Karen Ziska-Beckley, of Sharpsburg, MD; three granddaughters, Kelly Beckley-Shank and husband, Brandon, of Williamsport, MD, Stacy Beckley-Crawford and husband, Jason, of Pectonville, MD, and Jamie Beckley-Bayliss and husband, Kevin, of Clear Brook, VA; two great-granddaughters, Aubrey Shank and Caroline Shank; two great-grandsons, John Crawford and Isaiah Shank; one sister, Betty Griffith and husband, Roger, of Boonsboro, MD; one Aunt, Catherine Shafer McCauley of Hagerstown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 11am, Saturday August 15, 2015 at Salem Reformed Church, 13182 Salem Church Road, Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Steve Wagoner will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Reformed Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Friday, from 6 to 8pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem Reformed Church Perpetual Care Fund.
