William Allen Barr, Sr., 83, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born October 31, 1932 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Paul Hayden and Eva Dorothy (Martin) Barr. He lived his entire life in his beloved hometown. Bill was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 58 years, Shirley Ann (Hines) Barr. He was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who cherished family and friends above all. Bill was a very artistic, gifted and talented man, always willing to help others. His hobbies included wine making and building Christmas displays. Bill retired from Potomac Edison in 1990 after nearly 40 years of service; and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. In addition to his wife, Shirley, Bill is survived by his daughter, Kathy Barr; son, Bill and wife, Joyce Barr; grandchildren, Emily Barr and Fiance, Forrest Barney, and Jacob Barr, all of Hagerstown; three sisters, Rose and brother-in-law, Ron Sweeney, Virginia Small and Colleen Shank, all of Hagerstown; and many loving nieces and nephews. Including his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Barr, Jr. and Robert Barr; and five sisters, Evelyn Repp, Lorraine Smith, Mary Bailey, Thelma Haines and Delores Barr. Bill will be greatly missed, but family and friends praise God for the blessing of having Bill be a part of their lives and look forward to seeing him again one day. Services will be held 11am, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Ed Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 7 to 9pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S.
