WAYNE BRYAN WINEBRENNER, 80, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center. Born in Woodsboro, Maryland on July 28, 1933, he was the son of the late Catherine Poulson and John M. Winebrenner. He was adopted by Frank A. Winebrenner and raised by his grandparents, Elsie May and Marshall Peter Winebrenner. He graduated from Walkersville High School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in the Marine Barricks 8th and I Street in Washington, D.C., in Okinawi and in the Armed Services Police. He was transferred to the Reserves in 1957 and Honorably Discharged in 1959. He was employed by the Maryland State Prison System beginning in September 1957. He began as a correction officer at the Maryland House of Correction in Jessup. Md., transferring to the Maryland Correction Institution in January 1958. He served at the Maryland Correction Training Center from 1968-1977. He was also at Division of Corrections Headquarters in 1978- and from 1980-1983. He served as warden at MCI and the Eastern Correctional Instution. He served as Judical Court Supervisor for the Washington County Sheriff's Dept. and was Town Manager at Princess Anne, Snow Hill and Boonsboro. He was project manager of the water treatment project in Boonsboro and the Aspiring to Serve Community Center Project for Christ's Reformed Church. He was a member of Salem Reformed Church, serving on the Church and Ministry Committee. He was a former member of Christ's Reformed Church and the Antioch Methodist Church in Princess Anne, MD. He was a member of American Legion, Post 211; Williamsport Redmen; Elks #378; KWVA Antietam Chapter 312 where he was a past commander; Korean War Veterans Last Man Club, where he was a past president; Marine Barricks 8th&I Street Alumni. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Rural Water Association and represented Maryland on the national board. He enjoyed golf and his favorite sport was baseball. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jeanne Wagaman Winebrenner; a son, Richard and wife Georgette; daughter, Kim Winebrenner and husband Gary Babb grandsons, Chad and wife Amanda, Chase and wife Lauren and great grandson, Cameron. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Reformed Church, 13182 Salem Church Road, Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Steve Wagoner will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one half hour prior to the service at the church.
