WAYNE EDWIN KISER, 92, a resident of Williamsport, MD, died on April 23, 2017 at Homewood at Williamsport. Born in Hagerstown, MD, on February 5, 1925, he was the son of the late Harold B. Kiser and Fearol G. Kiser. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold (Buck) Kiser and sister, Lurley LaFata. Wayne, who was affectionately known as "Sam" by some of his closest old friends and family, was a 1943 graduate of Hagerstown High School. Immediately following his graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served in the 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division, 101st Infantry Regiment as a Sergeant who led a platoon of soldiers through the Battle of the Bulge in World War ll. He returned to Hagerstown after the war, graduated from Hagerstown Business College, and married his high school sweetheart, Bettie Fearnow Kiser in 1948. They raised two sons together, Wayne Randall Kiser of Shady Side, MD and Jeffrey Lloyd Kiser of Cary, NC. In the 1950's he worked for Fearnow &Cline Farm Machinery and in the 1960's he began a long career with the Thumma Motor Company where he rose through the ranks as a bookkeeper, office manager, new car manager, and general manager until his retirement in the 1990's. After his wife Bettie died in 1988, he married Jean Anette (Phillips) Kiser in 1990 and they enjoyed 25 wonderful years together until she passed in 2016. Wayne and Jean hosted a dozen gatherings of his old Army buddies in the 1990's and into the next decade at their home outside of Williamsport. They renewed friendships and exchanged many pictures and stories of their life-changing time together in the war. Wayne was an active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and a past member of the Alsatia Club. He was a coach and President of the National Little League where his sons played baseball in the 1960's. He loved baseball, and was a great fan of the Washington Senators, Baltimore Orioles, Hagerstown Suns and Washington Nationals. He was a bowler in the Alsatia League and played on the Alsatia softball team as well as a Maryland Senior Olympics team at the age of 70. He began running at the age of 50 and participated in many 5K charity races. Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends, family and dogs Smokey, Daisy, Christy and his granddog Ollie. He instilled a great sense of humor in his two sons and introduced them to the classic comedies of Laurel & Hardy, W.C. Fields, and Peter Sellers. There were always a lot of laughs in the Kiser household. In addition to his two sons, Randy & Jeff, he is survived by his sister, Sharon Henson, daughter-in-Laws, Marcia Simpson and Linda Kiser, and granddaughters, Stephanie Kiser and Kathleen Kiser. Those of us who knew him and loved him will miss him greatly, but will always remember his smile, his stories, and the lessons he taught us over the years Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown.
