Warren Lee Shirey, 94, of Williamsport, Maryland went home to be with the Lord on August 6th, 2024. He was born on July 3, 1930, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Warren was the son of the late Ernest and Irene Shirey. He graduated from Hagerstown High in 1947. He served in the Army from 1951-1953, during the Korean War. Warren married Shirley Shirey in May of 1956. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hagerstown for many years and currently a member of Christ Community Church in Williamsport. He was also a long-time member of the Morris Frock American Legion. Warren retired from E.I. Dupont in 1988 after 34 years of service. During his retirement years, he worked part time for Hagerstown Honda.
Warren loved the Lord and read his bible daily. He had a heart full of love for children and loved spending time with his great grandchildren. He loved all animals and would care for any animal that wandered into his yard. He loved playing baseball in his younger years, exercising, and shooting pool. Warren was an avid golfer and treasured golfing with his nephews, Joel and Rob, friends, and best buddy Sid. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and their best friends, "The Sixpack." Warren enjoyed watching the Yankees, Audie Murphy movies and Westerns.
In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley and their son, Darren Lee Shirey. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Smoot, son-in-law, Ron Smoot of Hagerstown, MD; his son, Randy Shirey of Orlando, FL; his grandson, Barry Smoot and wife Laura; his granddaughter, Holly Reyes and husband Alex; three grandchildren, Violet, Zoey and Dawson; his sister, Beverly Rice; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Services will be 1pm Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD with Pastor Kevin Smoot officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with Military Honors by Morris Frock American Legion, Post 42.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
