WARREN "Si" VICTOR MIDDLEKAUFF, SR., 87, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at his home. Born September 5, 1929 in Williamsport, MD, he was the son of the late Silas H. and Nellie Catherine Shank Middlekauff. Warren was a Veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was drafted in 1952. He took basic training at Stevedore School at Ft. Eustis, VA. He then went to Langley Air Force Base where he took Amphibious Duck training. Warren was sent to Korea in 1953 where he was stationed with the 52nd Ord. Ammo Company at Youngchon under the 8th Army Command. In 1954, Warren returned to the United States and joined the Army Reserves. He was with the 319th Infantry in Hagerstown, MD. He then went to Greencastle, PA with the 479th Aircraft Maintenance. He then transferred to the 357th Aircraft Maintenance, also in Greencastle. In 1968 the 357th, under the 79th Aircom, was called to active duty. They reported to Fort Benning, GA, where they were then sent to Vietnam. Once in Vietnam they were stationed at Ben Hoa Air Force Base. Warren served his entire active duty at Ben Hoa as Motor Sgt. In 1969, Warren returned to Greencastle and joined the active reserve program until retiring in 1990. Warren retired from the Army as a SFC after serving 35 years in active and reserve duty. Warren was a member of Salem Reformed Church. Warren worked at AMSA 113 in Greencastle as a mechanic in 1969 until retiring in 1989. He also worked for tourism for the State of Maryland for 10 years. He was the President of Chewsville Lions Club and a member of Boy Scouts Troop 2 in Hagerstown with his three sons. He was a member of The American Legion Morris Frock Post #42, Vietnam Veterans Last Man's Club, and Korean Veterans Last Man's Club. Warren is survived by his wife, Martha, daughter of the late Gardner and Evelyn Miles, whom he married in 1950; a daughter, Jennifer Sue Dayhoff and husband, Kenny; three sons, Warren V. Middlekauff, Jr. and wife, Rhonda of Richmond, VA, Thomas H. Middlekauff and wife, Sue of Gerrardstown, WV and Gary E. Middlekauff, Sr. and wife, Marlene of Funkstown, MD; two sisters, Mary Weaver of Pine Hills, Hagerstown, MD and Janice Lambert; a brother, Allen Middlekauff; two grandsons, Khail Middlekauff and wife, Amanda and Gary Middlekauff, Jr. and wife Allison; numerous step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Eugene and William Howard Middlekauff. Services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Steve Wagoner will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Clear Spring MD. Military honors provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps of Washington County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm to 8pm on Monday.
