WALTER LAYMAN MUMMA, 80, of 21211 Mount Aetna Road, Hagerstown, Maryland, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at his home. Born April 17, 1929 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Daniel Gear and Teresa Mumma. He was retired from Grove Manufacturing Company in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. He was previously employed with Folk and Miller Sign Company in Rockville, MD. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Beaver Creek. He was a member of the Moose, Izaak Walton League of America and the Potomac Archers. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Mumma; one daughter, Robin Dawn Polk of Forrest Hill, MD; one son, Walter L. Mumma, Jr. of Hagerstown, MD; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Gary W. Mumma; seventeen brothers and sisters. Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Rev. David B. Kaplan will officiate. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. Monday in St. Paul's Cemetery in Clear Spring, MD. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
