Obituary

Walter Carver Hollins, 80, of Hagerstown, MD, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Monday, May 21, 1945 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Rev. Walter Churchill and Martha Vivian (Jackson) Hollins.

Walter graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1963. He was a lifelong member of the former Asbury United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir as a youth and later served faithfully as an usher, chair of the trustees, and treasurer of the United Methodist Men.

Walter worked at General Motors in Martinsburg for 37 years as a forklift driver. In his leisure time, he enjoyed NASCAR and attending performances at Sight & Sound.

Walter is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Turner-Hollins; his son, Walter Carl Hollins; his stepson, Courtney Bamikole Taylor; his sister, Edna Marie Hollins; his niece, Nina Dionne Hollins; five grandchildren, Joshua Gower, Whitney Hollins, Nicholas Hollins, Josiah McLaughlin, and Je'Hannah McLaughlin; as well as great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann McLaughlin.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 4pm to 6m at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.

The funeral will be held at 11am on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W Church St, Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service as well. Rev. Dionne T. Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace United Methodist Church's building fund.
