W. RICHARD (DICK) MOWEN, 86, of 13811 Long Ridge Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the Ravenwood Nursing Home. Born November 21, 1919 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Howard F. and Agnes B. Mowen. He was preceded in death by his wife, M. Jeanette Mowen on June 3, 1998. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy with Fighting Squadron Nine, aboard aircraft carriers in the Atlantic and Pacific. He was employed with W. F. Prior Company/Harper and Row Publishers, Inc. for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church and the Comrades Sunday School Class. He was Chairman of the Administrative Council and Treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Alsatia Club, the American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42, and B. P. O. Elks 378. He is survived by close friends, Frances Hardy, Stephanie Shepherd Ragland, and Savannah Shepherd, all of Hagerstown. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Wesley G. Scouten will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p. m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 505 W. Franklin Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
