Vivian Stockslager Grove Strunk, born in Leitersburg, Maryland on March 23, 1927, died on December 30, 2022. She resided at Homewood Retirement Community in Williamsport, Maryland.
Vivian was the daughter of the late Clarence William and Anna Mary Hartle Stockslager.
Vivian's first husband, Robert H. Grove, died in 1974. Her second husband, The Reverend Lawrence N. Strunk, died in 1996.
After graduation from Hagerstown High School in 1945, Vivian attended Hagerstown Business College where she received her Bachelor of Secretarial Science Degree.
Vivian was employed as Secretary to the Headmaster of St. James School in Hagerstown from 1946-1955. She retired as Administrative Assistant of Christ's Reformed Church (UCC), Hagerstown after serving 29 years.
Vivian was very active in her community. She was a life-long member of Christ's Reformed Church where she was an Elder and served on many church committees. She was a member of the Chancel Choir for 65 years and a charter member of the St. Patrick's Chorale.
Vivian was a charter member of Hager Chapter, International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) where she served two terms as President and a President of the Delaware-Maryland District of Columbia Division of IAAP.
Vivian served as a past Secretary of Washington County Chapter of American Red Cross, Community Concert Association, Washington County Council of Churches and Church Women United.
Vivian was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
Following retirement, Vivian volunteered in the gift shop at Homewood and served as a member and President of the Homewood Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Vivian is preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Nilsson, step-grandson Jeffrey Strunk and niece, Mary Anne Bloom.
Vivian is survived by her stepson, Whit Strunk (Sherry), step-grandson Tyler Strunk (Marcie), nephew Michael Nilsson (Geni) and nieces Diana Kurt (Kevan), Carol Bounds (Gaylon) and Sue Todd.
Funeral services will be held at Christ's Reformed Church, 130 West Franklin Street, Hagerstown on Tuesday, January 10th at 11:30 with The Reverend Mary Jane Norville officiating.
Prior to the funeral, everyone is invited to attend a viewing and reception beginning at 10:00 in the Sunday School Auditorium at the church.
Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Homewood Foundation, 16107 Elliott Parkway, Williamsport, Maryland 21795, or to Christ's Reformed Church.
