Virginia M. Rohrer, 97, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021. The daughter of the late Charles M. Hewitt and Edna E. (Parsons) Hewitt of Hagerstown, she was born May 11, 1923 in Burnt Cabin, PA. She was a 1942 graduate of Boonsboro High School where she excelled in girls basketball. Upon graduation, she worked for Fairchild Industries and played for the womens basketball team. She attended Hagerstown Business College and was employed with the Washington County Board of Education for 30 years as a secretary at Broadway and Potomac Heights elementary schools. For many years, Virginia was part of a gospel music trio along with two other sisters known throughout the tristate area as The Hewitt Sisters. With a magnificent soprano voice, she also sang with the Hagerstown Bible Church choir. She also was a longtime Sunday School teacher for the teen girls class and the Ladies Bible Class. Virginia touched many lives with her servants heart and was a doting grandmother to her four grandchildren with whom she spent countless hours and days. She often boasted of having two daughters-in-law that loved and cared for her and she them. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Fred "Speezie" Rohrer; son, Kirk Rohrer; sisters, Marie Bohn and Jean Churchey; brothers, Harland Hewitt and Charles Hewitt. She is survived by one sister, Ruth Weitzel of Towson, MD; son, Gary W Rohrer and wife, Marge of Boonsboro; daughter-in-law, Cindy Rohrer of Hagerstown; sister-in-law, Martha Hewitt of Ellicott City, MD; granddaughter, Jaime Rohrer; grandsons, Brooks Rohrer and Aaron Rohrer of Hagerstown, and Travis Rohrer of Big Pool; seven greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Due to current concerns for the pandemic, a celebration-of-life service will be held at some future date at Hagerstown Bible Church. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 1:00pm in Rest Haven Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Carver officiating and burial following the service. The family is deeply appreciative for the many acts of kindness extended by the staffs at Somerford of Hagerstown, Doeys House, and Hospice of Washington County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Virginias memory to either Hagerstown Bible Church or Hospice of Washington County.
