VIRGINIA MINNIE COONS, 87, of 1408 Sherman Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at her home. Born October 30, 1923, in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Fred H. Henry and Minnie Henry Winters. She was a 1941 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Coons on August 27, 1994. She was previously employed with Fairchild Aircraft, American News Company, Concessions Stand at Municipal Pool and JoAnne's Nut House at Valley Mall. She was a lifetime member of Washington Square United Methodist Church. Virginia attended High School and Little League events especially track and baseball. She was a New York Times devoted cross word puzzle solver, also an ardent Atlanta Braves fan. She is survived by a son, Michael Coons and wife Lynn, of Westminster, MD; two granddaughters, Brianne Carter of Hanover, PA and Kelsey Coons of Westminster, MD, and their mother Linda Kephart, of Westminster; one great grandson, Emmett Carter; one sister, JoAnn Fiddler of Hagerstown, MD; one brother, Jack Winters of Falling Waters, WV. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred Henry, Paul Henry, Leo Henry and Harry Winters. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Jerry Lowans will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flower, memorial donations may be made to any area Little League Boosters or any area High School Athletic Boosters.
