Obituary

Violet "Vi" Mae Carlson, 91, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020. She was born on December 14, 1928 in Ethan, SD, to the late Edward C. Nesheim and Lilly Johnson Nesheim. Violet remained active her entire life, especially at church. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown where in addition to serving as a member of the Altar Guild, she often volunteered for the clothing bank, food bank, and helped prepare food for numerous church functions. She enjoyed traveling and was active in the Mack Golden Bull Dogs with her late husband. Violet was a talented seamstress, an excellent cook, and was known for her legendary Christmas cookies. Most of all, Violet loved being a mother and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ellsworth Carlson, in 1993. Also, she was preceded by her parents, two sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her children, Eugene Paul Carlson and his wife, Berlyn Griffith Carlson, Douglas Paul Carlson and his wife, Cathy Fuss Carlson, and Sara Lynn Oxendine and her husband, Barry Oxendine, her grandchildren, Erika Carlson-Hiles and her husband, Jason Hiles, Chrissa Carlson and her husband, William Doane, Kevin Carlson and his wife, Kelly Williams Carlson, Adriane Carlson Ruther and her husband, Andrew Ruther, Monica Carlson and her husband, Nick DeWind, and Philip Carlson and his wife, Loren Rayburn Carlson, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation on Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 10:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Avenue in Hagerstown. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
