Obituary

CARY VIOLA FLORENCE SHANK, 92, of Cary, North Carolina, and formerly of Outer Drive, Hagerstown, died on Saturday, September 23, 2006 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Viola was born on April 16, 1914 and was the daughter of the late John and Eliza Jane Yeates. She was preceded in death by husbands, Orville Kauffman and D. Howard Shank. While in Hagerstown, Viola worked at the YMCA of Hagerstown as a child care attendant, and loved going to work every day. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain family and friends. Viola loved to hug and meet new people – even in her final days she brought a smile to everyone's face, and our "Mee Maw" will be greatly missed. Viola is survived by son, Richard Kauffman, and daughter-in-law, Vicki, of Cary, North Carolina; and grandchildren, Rich Kauffman, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kris Miuccio, and husband, Wayne, of Cary, North Carolina, and Shellie Stow, and husband, Jeff, of Cary, North Carolina. She also had four precious great-grandchildren: Drew, Kelsey and Shea Miuccio and Jackson Stow. We are grateful that she got to meet each one of them! Additionally, Viola is survived by a sister, Ruth Visosky of Lucerne Valley, California, and nieces, Janie Stine of Randolph, New Jersey, Barbara Crider, and husband, Eddie, of Hagerstown, and Susie Smith, and husband, Earl, of Hagerstown.
