Vera Margaret Smith, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away on January 9, 2024, at the age of 83, in her hometown of Hagerstown, Maryland. Born on August 25, 1940, Vera's life journey came full circle as she departed peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Vera spent her years alongside her late husband, Charles "Peachy" Smith, creating a legacy of love that would extend through their children, Justina Simcox, alongside her husband Kenneth, Charles Smith, who preceded her in death, and his wife Joann, Robert Smith and his wife Rhonda. Vera's role as a grandmother was one of her most cherished, guiding the lives of her grandchildren, Nikki Forrest, Paul Sharrah, Arianne Johnson, the late Autumn Smith, Brehann Smith, McKenzie Brechbill, Cole Brechbill and Beckett Smith. Her influence continued to resonate with her great-grandchildren, Kierra Hott, Ryne Forrest, Delanie Sharrah, Dade Daily, Dylan Sharrah, Paityn Daily and Akaila Daily. She was even blessed to influence her great-great-grandchildren, Everleigh Hott, Brantley Hott, and Madeline Forrest. In addition, Vera is survived by two sisters, Shirley Vance and Gloria Teach.
Vera's professional life was marked by dedication and hard work at the Hagerstown Shoe Company and later at Sealy Mattress, where her diligence and friendly demeanor were appreciated by all who worked alongside her.
Outside of her work and family life, Vera had a passion for life's simple pleasures. She found joy in visiting with family and the fellowship of her Women's Bible Study. Vera's faith was a cornerstone of her life and it provided her with strength and guidance during her lifetime.
Vera's journey on earth may have ended, but her influence will continue to resonate, echoing through the lives of all she loved.
A celebration of life service will be held at the West End Baptist Chapel, 59 Winter Street, Hagerstown on Saturday, January 13th at 11 am. Pastor Shane Wilt will officiate the celebration service. A reception will follow at the clubhouse at the Reserve at Collegiate Acres, 18303 Buckeye Cir, Hagerstown, immediately following the service.
