Vaughn Homer Dullabaun, 84, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 at Fahrney-Keedy Home, San Mar, Washington County, Maryland. Born April 12, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Paul H. and Pearl V. (Lum) Dullabaun. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by a sister, June Barkdoll Deaner; and nephew, Thomas E. James Jr., and great nephew, Dale L. Dullabaun lll. Mr. Dullabaun was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a 1954 graduate of Frostburg University. While at Frostburg, he was active in athletics and also music/drama programs. He served in the military and the Naval Reserves. Mr. Dullabaun was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association and the Funkstown American Legion Dixon-Troxell Post 211. He was also a member of the Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378. Mr. Dullabaun retired in 1990, having taught math at South Hagerstown High School since its opening except for seven years at which time he was a TV math teacher. He also taught financial courses at Hagerstown Junior College now called Hagerstown Community College. Mr. Dullabaun was a member of the Washington County Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed passing on his interest in history and genealogy. In addition to teaching, Mr. Dullabaun was a farmer in the Beaver Creek area of Washington County and was a partner in several farm businesses. Mr. Dullabaun was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church attending since age one. He served the church in various duties. Mr. Dullabaun is survived by his college sweetheart, Eugenia "Jean" James who he married in 1954; a daughter Karen Clem and husband Ward; much loved step-grandson Matthew Clem, East Hampstead, New Hampshire; brother, Dale L. Dullabaun and wife Carol, Northridge, California; his nephews and nieces: Dale L. Dullabaun and wife Debbie, Northridge, California; Darren Dullabaun and wife Rodica, Northridge, California; Debra Appell and husband Jeff and their children Katie and Matthew, Thousand Oaks, California; Teresa "Terri" Myers and husband Steve and their family, Hagerstown, MD; K. Troy James and wife Tina and son Caden, Keyser, WV; Jeffrey James and wife Melissa and their family, Ridgeley, WV; Kiki James Ratchford and her family, Mt. Airy, MD; sister-in-law, Norma James, Cumberland, MD. In addition, Mr. Dullabaun is survived by a large extended family which includes cherished cousins, great and great great nieces and nephews, his wife's siblings, and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Avenue, Hagerstown, MD with Rev. Randall Reid officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in the Beaver Creek Cemetery, Beaver Creek, MD.
