Thomas "Tom" R. McNeal, 96, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018. Born April 13, 1921 in Sago, WV, he was the son of the late Mamie and Thomas McNeal. Tom graduated from St. Marys School, and from West Virginia Wesleyan College. He attended University of Baltimore School of Law. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Tom served 3 years in the Army during World War II in the Coast Artillery in the Pacific Theater on Ira Jima. He was an avid stamp collector and writer. He enjoyed traveling, walking, and playing chess. Tom is survived by nieces, Paula McNeal and JoAnne Papa; and nephew John "Jack" Pensinger and wife, Teddi. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Eileen Freize and Marguerite Pensinger; and brothers, William McNeal, Joseph McNeal, and J. Paul McNeal. A graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 1pm with Rev. Lawrence Adamczyk will officiating. Military honors will be provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine League of Hagerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Catholic School, 218 W.
