Thomas Irvin "Gus" Guessford, 78, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Born November 1, 1939 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Keller Woodrow and Maxine Virginia (Byrd) Guessford. Gus was veteran serving in the U.S. Airforce. He was employed with Mack Truck for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He was a self-taught carpenter who loved working with wood. He was a life member and past president of Goodwill Athletic Club. Gus is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat Guessford; two daughters, Debbie Guessford, and Kathleen Heavner; son-in-law, Donnie Miner; grandchildren, Heather and Damien, Ryan Thomas Heavner; and Amy Miner Staley; great grandchildren, Harlow Kaelyn Myers, Devon Curtis Staley, and Colton Jeremy Staley; and side kick, Winston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Guessford; and grandson, Jeremy Miner. Services will be held 1pm, Monday, November 13, 2017 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Pastor James Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery with graveside military honors provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine League of Hagerstown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
