Theresa Ann Tate (Kretzer) went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2018 in Hagerstown, MD after a lengthy illness. She was born January 27, 1949 in Hagerstown to Juanita and Charles Kretzer. As a child she lived in Dargan, MD where she attended Dargan Elementary and Boonsboro Jr. High School. As a teen she moved with her family to Pasadena, MD, where she attended George Fox Jr High and Northeast High School. After graduation, Theresa began her career as an administrative assistant, working for several government and private employers before taking a position in mortgage servicing for James W. Rouse and Co. In 1971, she married Allen Tate, Jr and became a full-time homemaker after giving birth to three daughters. After her children were grown, she held several more administrative assistant positions until her retirement. She and her husband were members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gambrills for over 30 years. Through the church, she enjoyed many volunteer positions. She was the first president of the North Arundel Church Softball League. She was a founding member of the Christian Assistance Program of Odenton, Severn, and Gambrills, where she was the first Secretary, later becoming President. She was active in the formation and growth of the Grace of God Homeless Ministry. She also served as church clerk, secretary, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. In her free time, she enjoyed travelling, reading, music and spending time with her husband. Theresa is survived by her husband Allen Tate, Jr., daughters Leigh Johnson (Carl), Stephanie Durante (Don), and Linda Tate (Marcus Wood), four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and brothers and sisters Gene Kretzer, Marlene Barger, Ricky Kretzer, Donna Smith, William Smith, and Charles Kretzer. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Linda Lewis and brothers Larry Kretzer and Frank Kretzer. Memorial services in her honor will be held at 1 PM, Friday, October 26, 2018 at Samples Manor Church of God, 2128 Harpers Ferry Rd., Dargan, MD, and at 1 PM, Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1215 Waugh Chapel Rd., Gambrills, MD. Interment will be at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Homeless Ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
