Obituary

Tammie Sue Bussard, aged 58, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, in her home in Hagerstown, MD, where she was born on March 14, 1967. Tammie's life was marked by her infectious humor, boundless love, and the interesting and multifaceted nature of her character, which left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Tammie was the beloved daughter of Shirley Bussard and the late Harold Bussard, Sr. She was a beacon of joy in her family, and the mother to her son Jason Fitzgerald and daughter Amanda Fitzgerald. The cherished grandmother of Curtis, Abigail, Kloee, and Bre'Anna Hewitt, Tammie adored her grandchildren and took immense pleasure in their growth and happiness. She often reminisced about the times she spent watching over them when they were younger, moments that were precious to her heart.

Her life was one of connection and familial bonds, fondly remembered by her brother Harold "Buzzy" Bussard, Jr., as well as a loving niece to her uncles Paul and Robert Reeder, and Aunt Debbie. Tammie was also an aunt to her nephew Charles Kegarise and his son Drake, as well as her niece Carla Kegarise. She shared a special kinship with her many cousins from the Reeder, Bussard and Whorton families. Tammie's family tree was deeply rooted in love and shared history, and she valued every branch and leaf of it. She was preceded in death by her doting grandparents, Riley and Rose Reeder, her father Harold Bussard, her sister Christine Kegarise, and her boyfriend, Grant Hoffman, along with other cherished family members from both sides of her family.

Tammie attended Clear Spring High School. Tammie's early professional years were dedicated to the noble field of nursing. Her caring nature and ability to bring comfort to those in need were hallmarks of her time in the healthcare profession. Tammie's work ethic and compassion were evident to all who worked alongside her.

Beyond her professional life, Tammie was an enthusiast of the simple joys of life. She had an insatiable appetite for books, devouring stories that took her from the comfort of her home to worlds far and wide. A wizard in the kitchen, she loved to cook, always experimenting with new recipes and sharing her culinary creations with friends and family. Tammie also found solace in the tranquility of her home, where she took pride in keeping her space immaculate and assisting her mother with yard work, cherishing the time spent outdoors and the satisfaction of a well-maintained garden.

Tammie Sue Bussard was a person of laughter, love, and intrigue. Her ability to light up a room with her humor, show unconditional love, and maintain an interesting and engaging presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire and comfort her family and friends.

Tammie's life was a testament to the beauty of family, the strength of motherhood, and the enduring power of laughter. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the time we had with her and the countless ways she enriched our lives. Tammie's spirit will live on through the stories shared, the meals enjoyed, and the love she gave so freely. Rest in peace, dear Tammie; your memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
