SIEBERT C. (SY) SHIFLER, 80, 124 Sunflower Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Born July 1, 1926 in Myersville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Shirley and Ellen Easterday Shifler. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific. He was employed with the Potomac Edison Company for sixteen years, and was the owner and operator of Shifler Electrical Associates, Inc. since l962. He was a past member of the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, and is presently a member of the Benevola United Methodist Church. He was a member and Past President of the Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Legislative Committee; he was also a member of the National Chamber of Commerce; he was a member and Past President of the Cumberland Valley Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors, and Chairperson for the Legislative Committee; a member of the Washington County Builders & Tristate Heat Pump Association; a member of the Boonsboro Lions Club for twenty- six years and a Past President; a member of the B.P.O.Elks 378 for thirty-two years; the Redmen of Williamsport, the North American Rod & Gun Club, Amvets Post 10, the V.F.W. of Waynesboro, and the Funkstown Moose. He served on the Advisory Board for the Hagerstown Junior College and the Washington County Vocational Advisory Board. He was Washington County Small Business Person of the year in 1988. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Mary E. Shifler; two daughters, Laura Anderson and husband, Kirk of Williamsport, Maryland, and Barbara Younkins and husband, Harold of Hagerstown; two sons, Carroll Shifler and fiancé, Pat Bollota of Hagerstown, and Donald Shifler and wife, Andrea of Boonsboro, Maryland; one sister, Elfleta Reeder of Boonsboro, Maryland; three brothers, James Shifler and wife, Ann, Charles Shifler and wife, Shirley, and Woodrow Shifler and wife, Jane, all of Boonsboro, Maryland; grandchildren, Michael, Penny, Judy, Lindsay, Daniel; and great-grandchildren, Keith, Matthew, Jared, and Kylee. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Helen Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery in Boonsboro. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p. m.
