Shirley Mae Hovermale, 90, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Friday, February 21, 2025, at Shippensburg Rehabilitation Health Care Center.

Born September 3, 1934 in Williamsport, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Edith (Teach) Howell. Shirley was raised in Downsville by her grandparents, Lee and Neva Howell.

She was a graduate of Williamsport High School and worked in several chiropractor's offices in the area. Her true love and passion was horses. Shirley won state, regional and national awards with quarter horses and miniature horses. She, and her late husband Don, enjoyed taking their miniature horses to community events and nursing homes.

Shirley was a member of Calvary Temple.

She is survived by one son, Darrell Hovermale, and wife, Cheri, of Williamsport, MD; one daughter, Kathy R. Hovermale, and husband, Amorey Cheney, of Newport, OR; one granddaughter, Lindsay Hovermale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Donald "Don" Hovermale and one sister, Sylvia McCray.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD with Pastor Jeff Casto officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Thursday.
