SCOTT MATTHEW VAUGHAN, 33, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at his home. Born in Abilene, Texas on February 2, 1973, he was the youngest of four sons. He was educated in the Abilene public school systems, where he graduated from Cooper High School. He went on to graduate cum laude, with a BS in Sociology, from McMurry University in Abilene. He continued his education at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland where he also did his internship with the Catholic charities. Scott obtained his masters degree cum laude in June of 2005. After McMurry, he spent three years serving in the United States Army where he was transferred to the D. C. area and worked in intelligence and communications. After leaving the Army, Scott moved to Frederick, Maryland and began his career in social work. He was employed by Way Station Inc., an adult program for the severely mentally ill. Scott was dedicated to helping the poor and mentally challenged, and was an advocate for the humane treatment of anyone in need. He was an active member of Amnesty International and was associated with several sociological and mental health organizations. He loved the outdoors, fishing, music, art, his animals, his family, and friends; Scott was a very loving, compassionate, and caring person. Scott is survived by his wife, Erin, and his stepson, Matthew. He is also survived by his mother, Beverly Vaughan, and his father, Earl Vaughan of Abilene, Texas; his brothers, Vic Vaughan of Abilene, Texas, Mark Vaughan of Houston, Texas, and Jeff Vaughan of Dallas, Texas; as well as two sisters-in-law; five nephews and two nieces. Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family will receive friends at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard on Friday from 7 to 9 p. m.
