SCOTT FRANKLIN PITTENGER, JR., 83, of 10920 Holly Terrace, Hagerstown, Maryland passed away at home, with his family present, on Thursday, November 9, 2006. Born May 29, 1923 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Scott Franklin Pittenger, Sr. and Lillian Whetstone Pittenger. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, serving with the 609th Engineers in Germany and France. He was employed with the Western Maryland Railroad, retiring in 1983 after forty-two years of service. He was a member of Christ's Reformed United Church of Christ. He was a member of the American Legion, Funkstown Post 211; the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum Board of Directors; the Western Maryland Railroad Historical Society at Union Bridge; the Western Maryland Oldtimer's Club; and the Last Man's Club. He was previously a member of the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42; Alsatia Club; local Chairman of the Western Maryland Railroad Clerk's Union; Vice-President of the Halfway Senior Little League; Moose Club; and Eagles of Waynesboro. He enjoyed ceramics, volunteering, breakfast at Richardson's with friends, and collecting trains. He is survived by his wife, Doris Hebb Pittenger, whom he married on May 4, 1956; two daughters, Lisa Jayne Pittenger of Hagerstown, and Jill Lynn Webb of Boonsboro, Maryland; one son, Gregory Scott Pittenger, and wife Kimberly Sue of Hagerstown; four sisters, Virginia E. Ott of Hagerstown, Emma Jane Sheldon of York, Pennsylvania, Josephine Lucille Houck of Hagerstown, and Doris Louise Eckstine of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Christopher Lee Hamby, Chad Tyler Bean, Scott Gregory Pittenger, Sarah Katherine Pittenger, Gregory Austin Webb, and Zachary Ryan Webb; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p. m.
