Obituary

Sarah Jane Weikert, 97, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Born on January 3, 1927, in Williamsport, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Lloyd and Sarah Emily (Harsh) Lemen.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Edgar H. Minnich, Jr. and Ray Isaac Weikert, Jr., and her sister Ann Baker. She is survived by her brother George Lemen; her son Michael (Darleen) Minnich, her grandchildren David Minnich and Melissa (Ian Williams) Minnich, 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her daughter Patricia (Sherwood) Witmer; her stepson Randy (Karen) Weikert; her stepdaughters Pamela (Steve) Grubbs and Judy (Art) Landis, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Sarah Jane was a 1944 graduate of Williamsport High School, after which she moved to Hagerstown. There, her warm and sociable nature led to lifelong friendships.

She was a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years and was a Worthy Matron. Sarah Jane worked at C. E. Darner & Son, Inc. for several years, and she regularly spent time giving back to her local community. She volunteered at both Washington County Hospital and in the mail room at the Maryland Correctional Training Center.

Sarah Jane loved knitting, summer trips to Ocean City with her family, and she regularly met with friends to play cards. Five hundred was a longtime favorite game.

Visitation will be held from 11:00am-1:30pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. A short graveside service will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Pastor Hoda Zavandro of Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate.
