Obituary

Sarah Marie Katherine Barnes Snyder, 81, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023. She was born on April 16, 1942, in Brush Creek Township, Fulton County.

Sarah graduated high school at Southern Fulton High and Washington County Hospital School of Nursing.

She worked at Washington County Hospital for 50 years, retiring in 2004, serving many years as a patient care coordinator and a night shift supervisor. She was very modest about her contributions, so the family does not have record of all her career accomplishments. However, during her last hospitalization, she was visited by a few Doctors and nurses, who shared with family that she was a well-respected nurse who displayed professionalism, led by example, "ran a tight ship", and was "quiet but mighty". She wrote many of the policies and procedures for Washington County Hospital, and it was understood that she was involved as a volunteer when Hospice services in Washinton County were started in the 1980's. She was blessed to receive the benefits of their services at Doey's House the day of her passing.

She loved to read, sew, and prepared years of Sunday family dinners and a wonderful display of Christmas cookies. She faithfully sent birthday cards to her immediate and extended family and friends. Family was special to her, and she displayed this by her special touch with personalized gifts to her children and grandchildren on their birthdays and Christmas. Sarah and her husband enjoyed traveling together and with their family, creating special family memories at Ocean City and Disney. Sarah was dedicated to a lifetime of caring for her family, church family, and patients. She was active in her church as a deacon at the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown, preparing meals for the soup kitchen, cold weather shelter, and prepared and delivered Micah's backpacks.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Barnes; husband of 56 years, Blaine Milton Snyder; sister, Leona "Sis" Crawford; and brother, Earl (Johnny) Barnes.

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Osik (husband, Stephen); her son, Jay/Blaine Snyder, Jr. (wife, Sonnie); grandchildren, Sarah Myers (fiancé, John Keith), Zachary Snyder (wife, Kathryn), Kaitlyn Morrow (husband, Landon), and Colby Snyder (wife, Cierra); and six great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are welcome for visitation at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD on Thursday, October 5th from 6-8pm. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 6th at 10am with the interment following the service at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doey's House, 11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
