Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Jean (Mose) Fedorka, 84, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 18, 2023, surrounded by family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a wonderful friend to many.

Sandra was born in Downsville, MD, August 12, 1938 to Joseph "JP" Perry Mose and Idella Mae (Kauffman) Mose. At age 2, she moved with her family to the Beaver Creek area of Washington County, Maryland. After graduating from Hagerstown High School in 1956, she went to Columbia Business School for Accounting and then went to work for Accelerated Transport Pony Express until 1962, when she married Philip J. Fedorka. They settled in Beaver Creek, Maryland, and started a family of their own. Other places she worked over the years (mostly accounting) were Morgan Keller; Hagerstown News Distributors; Flameless Heating Supply; Hagerstown Shoe Company; Merkle (Data Entry); and DMP (Data Entry).

Sandra is survived by her children, Pamela M. (Fedorka) Calandrelle of Martinsburg, WV; and Mark D. Fedorka and wife, Sharon of Chantilly, VA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Taylor C. Calandrelle of Martinsburg, WV; Elliot D. Fedorka of Catonsville, MD; Benjamin J. Fedorka of Herndon, VA and Corey A. Smith of Centreville, VA. She is also survived by one step-grandchild, Ashley N. Hart of Paw Paw, WV; and a special niece, Susan J. Bittle of Hagerstown, MD.

Sandra was the last surviving sibling of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn L. Larrouy; Kathleen M. Mose; Joyce A. Gamby; and Lois I. Bond and her brothers, Gilbert "Gil" P. Mose; Richard "Dick" E. Mose; Gerald "Jerry" D. Mose; and William "Bill" R. Mose.

Her father, J.P. Mose "Beanie" and grandfather, Jerome Mose "Geesey", were boatsmen on the C&O Canal (Boat No. 27); Jerome being Captain, and comes from several generations of family from Sharpsburg, Maryland who made their living boating and working on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal. During the American Civil War, her great-grandfather, Daniel Mose, enlisted in the 1st Regiment Potomac Home Brigade Maryland Volunteer Infantry, Co. A (Union), having fought in the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863.

Growing up, Sandra spent a lot of time in Beaver Creek with her siblings, attending the Beaver Creek School through Grade 6, playing around their farmette, and participating in 4H where she won several ribbons for canning fruits and vegetables, piano recitals at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and The Hagerstown Rubber Heels Ladies Bowling League. Sandra enjoyed being with her family and her many friends. She loved flowers and enjoyed helping with the Food Bank deliveries at the Francis Murphy Apartments, where she resided. She enjoyed playing Bingo, painting, and keeping her candy dish filled outside her apartment door for her neighbors to enjoy.
