RUTH MAE SPURDENS, 62, formerly of 611 Adams Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, died Friday, December 23, 2011 at Western Maryland Health Care System in Cumberland, Maryland. Born October 11, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Burley and Evelyn Isabell Hardy Spence. She worked for 11 years at the Salvation Army Women's Shelter in Hagerstown. She is survived by a son, William Hahn and wife Denise of Marion, Pa.; three sisters, Lottie V. Spence of Baltimore, Md., Beatrice M. Kupfer and husband William of Martinsburg, W. Va., and Sharon Huntzberry and husband Gerald of Fairplay, Md.; a brother, Charles C. Spence of Baltimore, Md.; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Macayla and Brandon; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. CSM Larry Miller will officiate. There will be no viewing. Donations may be made to Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown, Md. 21740 to help defray funeral expenses.
