RUTH VIRGINIA (GUS) SHIPLEY, 82, of 16021 Mt. Tabor Road, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center. Born September 2, 1930, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late David William and Susie Jane Mullenix Gossard. She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1948. She was previously employed by the Community Action Council. She was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. Her favorite hobby was cooking for the church. She was a member of the American Legion Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary, V.F.W. Mercersburg #6241 Auxiliary, Past President of Ladies of the Elks #378, supporter of Leather Neck Nations Motorcycle Club, Peleliu Chapter, and Antique Automobile Club of America, Mason Dixon Region. She is survived by her husband, Robert (Buck) Shipley; two daughters, Deborah Kline of Clear Spring, Maryland, and Cynthia Smith, and husband, Todd, of Williamsport, Maryland; stepdaughter, Becky Grove, and husband, Brian, of New Windsor, Maryland; stepson, Chris Shipley of Frederick, Maryland; grandchildren, Wendy Buhrman, and husband, Ronald, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Shane Moore, and wife, Kelly, of China Grove, North Carolina, and Nathaniel Schoppert of Bel Air, Maryland; and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Abigail Buhrman, Reagan and Kenadie Moore, Josh and Tyler Grove. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Merle Secrest, two sisters, Genevieve Mease, and Elaine Files, and one brother, David Gossard. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Pastor William Warehime, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Raymond T. Moreland, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p. m.
