Obituary

Ruth Lucille Russ, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Born January 8, 1938, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lucy Young Bell and Phillip Durant Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth "Goonie" Russ. They were married for 47 years. Lucille attended North Street School. She was active in the school choir, drama and played on the girls basketball team called "the Badgerettes". She especially loved watching pro football and was an avid Raiders' fan. Lucille was employed and retired from Head Start of Washington County after 34 years of service. She was a dedicated member of the Greater Campher Temple Church, serving on the Usher Board and the Choir. She is survived by one son, Phillip Lane, Sr. (Wife, Candace) of Kearneysville, WV; two daughters, Constance Lee of Martinsburg, WV, and Carmen Lane of Smyrna, TN; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Carter (husband, Barry) and Carmen Gilliam of Hagerstown, MD; one sister, Georgianna Yeatts (husband, Richard) of Tollhouse, CA; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Alethea Campbell; four brothers, Thomas "Juma Oris" Bell, Roger Bell, Sr., Ralph Bell, and Charles Bell; two sisters, Pauline Proctor and Doris Johnson. A viewing will be held from 5 to 7pm on Sunday, December 19th, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Home Going Service will be held at 11am on Monday, December 20th, at Greater Campher Temple Church, 125 Bethel Street, Hagerstown, MD. Due to COVID restrictions, masks are required. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family of Lucille Russ would like to express gratitude and heartfelt thanks for the many expressions of sympathy during this time. Your cards, phone calls, postings, and prayers have been a comfort to us and are greatly appreciated.
