RUSSELL VIRGIL WALTERS, JR., 76, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Born March 24, 1936, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Russell Virgil, Sr. and Edith Grams Walter. After graduating from high school, he went on to join the Air Force for four years, then the Army for thirteen and a half years. He last worked at Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania as a machinist, until he left due to medical reasons. He was a life member of the NRA, Amvets Post 10, and DAV Chapter 14. He was an avid ham radio operator, N3KKQ and amateur radio operator, Tri-pod. Survivors include wife, Nora Jacobs Walters; daughters, Michelle Walters Lewis of Hagerstown, and Jennifer Walters of Cumberland, Maryland; son-in-law, David Lewis of Hagerstown; grandsons, Jay Lewis, David Lewis, II, and John Lewis, all of Hagerstown; one brother, Ronald Walters, Sr.; sister-in-law, Elsie Walters of Jefferson, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Norma Walters Jacobs-Riveria, and Gloria Walters Sparks. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Monday, June 18, 2012 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Pastor Ronald K. Faith will officiate. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Washington County Amvets Post 10 and Marine Corp League of Hagerstown. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday two hours prior to the service, from 12:30 to 2:30 p. m.
