Ruby Elizabeth Dowler, 89, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Inova Hospital in Alexandria, VA.

Born September 27, 1935 in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Preston Roosevelt and Nina Beatrice (Thomas) Lunceford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dowler.

Ruby dedicated 36 years of her life to working at the Herald Mail. Her greatest joy came from her family—she adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always cherishing time spent with them. Ruby enjoyed playing bingo and had a special interest in lighthouses. Her kind heart and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Dillow, Janet Dowler, and Teresa Dowler; sons, David Dowler, Earl Berkebile, and Robert H. Dowler, Jr.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Linda Leatherwood.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Hess; her sisters, Mary Lunceford, Janet Kirby, and Hazel Waddel; and her brothers, Stanley Lunceford, Kenneth Lunceford, Preston Lunceford, and Fred Lunceford.

The funeral will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Bill Divelbiss will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 6-8pm.
