Rosemary Haynes
Haralson
Nov 30, 1927 — Sep 30, 2025
Rosemary Haynes Haralson, affectionately known as Rosemary, was a beacon of light and love to all who had the privilege of crossing her path. Born on November 30, 1927, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, LA, Rosemary's journey through life was marked by an unwavering faith, a tireless work ethic, and a boundless capacity to give. On September 30, 2025, she concluded her earthly chapter peacefully in Hagerstown, MD, surrounded by the love and prayers of those she touched.
The daughter of Cornelia Ferdinand Haynes and Lee Haynes, Rosemary grew up with her brothers John and Lionel, both of whom preceded her in death. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she was a cherished member of a lineage that included her beloved husband, the late George Rufus Haralson Sr., her loving sons George Rufus Haralson Jr. and Norval Gerard Haralson, and her miracle baby daughter KnovelRhea A. Barnor. She was also a proud aunt and cousin, leaving behind a legacy through Lionel Haynes Jr., Linda Haynes, Stephanie Jacque, a great niece, and her closest living cousins Ernest Harding and Michelle LeDoux.
Rosemary's professional life was as rich as her personal one. A graduate of the Cortez Peters School of Business, she began her career at the Pentagon as a Secretary. Known for her exceptional speed and accuracy, she could type 1,000 money orders a day without error. Her journey continued at the Government Accounting Office, where she served as an Accounting Secretary and Accounting Assistant. She retired from the US Postal Service around 1984, having made an indelible impression on her colleagues and all who benefited from her diligent service. At work, she was known for her strong religious beliefs, always keeping a figure of the infant Jesus and Mother of Perpetual Help on her desk as a testament to her faith.
Rosemary's Christian faith was the compass by which she navigated life. She devoted her spare time to making jewelry, designing clothing, and tending to her garden, often reviving flowers that others had given up on. Her commitment to worship was profound; she attended daily church services, making it a point to attend multiple masses each Sunday with her closest friends. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception held a special place in her heart, as did the many people she knew there.
Her kindness knew no bounds, as illustrated by the story of how she helped a family living out of their car find a place to stay and get back on their feet. This act of generosity was but one of many that defined Rosemary's character. It was as if she had a special connection with angels, evidenced by the mysterious gift of an old-fashioned umbrella on a rainy day—a story she recounted with laughter and wonder.
As we remember Rosemary, we are reminded of her unwavering trust in God's promise. "Prayer is the only thing I know, and God has promised He will never abandon me," she would say. Her life was a testament to the power of faith, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. In the words of Helen Keller, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart." Rosemary felt the world with her heart, and in doing so, she made it a more beautiful place for us all. She was loved by many, touched the souls of countless individuals, and will be deeply missed.
