Ronald Eugene Varner, 91, lovingly known as Ron, passed away March 23, 2024 at Seaton in Hagerstown, MD.

Ron was born on July 6, 1932, in Windber, Pennsylvania, to Clair and Dora (Speicher) Varner. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Baker (Ralph) of Brick, NJ.

After graduation from Windber High School, Ron proudly served in the Navy 1951-1955. Upon discharge, he attended Elizabethtown College where he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mathematics. During this time, Ron met Joan (Fleck) with whom he would be very happily married for nearly 64 years. Ron and Joan were married June 26, 1960 in Windber, PA. They would live in Canton, CT for 7 years before settling in Clearfield, PA where they would raise their family. Ron enjoyed his time working at Target Sportswear in Clearfield where he managed the computer programming department and had an amazing 34-year tenure.

After Ron's retirement he was deeply involved in volunteering with the Red Cross, where he assisted in the office of the Clearfield Chapter using his expertise with computers and office management.

Ron was a devoted parishioner of West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield, PA for nearly 50 years. His love of church and the church community was evident in Ron's actions.

Ron's other passion was a flourishing garden that provided them with homegrown vegetables and fruits, a testament to his love for nature and nurturing life.

Family was a source of great happiness and pride for Ron, and he cherished time they could spend together. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joan (Fleck) Varner, two sons, Daniel James (Linda) of Frederick, MD, and Samuel John (Paige) of Stone Mountain, GA. His grandchild, Evelyn Varner of Stone Mountain, GA, brought him sincere joy. Additional survivors include brother-in-law Ralph Baker, sister-in-law Janet Gordon and numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren.

Ron was known throughout his life for his generous spirit, caring nature, and quick wit, often bringing laughter and joy to those around him, including fellow parishioners at West Side United Methodist Church and the staff at Seaton of Hagerstown, MD, where he spent his final years.
