Ronald Lewis
Souders
Sep 15, 1944 — Jun 14, 2023
Ronald Lewis Souders, 78, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. He was born on September 15, 1944 to the late Hubert Souders and Lillian Douglas Souders.
Ronnie was a brave, young U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served proudly in the Vietnam War. "Semper Fi – Always Faithful" was definitely a motto that he truly lived by. His military honors include: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Rifle Marksman Badge.
He worked many years as an OTR trucker and went by the handle "Rocketman". He retired in 2001 and thoroughly loved his retirement. He enjoyed being outside, golfing with his buddies, four-wheeling, camping, and especially spending time chilling on his back porch looking at his gardens. He spent much of his time around his motorcycles – particularly, Harleys, and fast cars. However, most of all, he loved spending time with his family, his many lifelong friends, and his many furbabies over the years, Tiggy, Cookie, Mike, Levi, Abby, and Smoke.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Souders.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia Souders; his children, Ronda Mire and husband, Gary, Chya Pottorff and husband, William, Jodi Souders, and Greg Gillespie and wife, Julie; his grandchildren, Laura, Ashlyn, Dylan, Nicole, Cheyenne, Andrew, Hunter, Emily and Aidan; six great-grandchildren, Evyn, Colby, Zane, Blakeley, Makenna, and Ryder; his brother, Robert Souders and wife, Jane; his beloved mother-in-law, Bertha Rill; a very special Aunt, Silver; and a family friend he loved like a son, Sammy Myers.
Family and friends are welcomed for a memorial visitation on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown.
Military honors will be provided by the Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps League of Washington County beginning at 7:00pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Rd, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or Down Rider Fund, 4828 Old National Pk, Frederick, MD 21702.
