Rodney Lee Davis, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Doey's house at the age of 71. Born on November 22, 1953, Rodney was the oldest son to the late Charles S. Davis and Charlotte (Kennedy) St. Martin.
Rodney was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School. After graduating, he worked for the City of Funkstown and later went to work for CertainTeed where he retired after 38 years.
Rodney grew up in Funkstown and at the age of 16 joined the Funkstown Fire Department as a volunteer. Later in his life, he pursued his passion of helping others and joined the volunteer fire company of Halfway Maryland. He served as a member of the fire police for many years. He was involved with the Washington County emergency management and served as an Instructor for the Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) and was a member of the Emergency Management Community Volunteers. At the time of his passing, he was a current member of the Independent Junior's Fire Company Engine 3, Hagerstown, Maryland, and was serving as their LOSAP coordinator. He was also serving as a member of the LOSAP review committee with the Washington County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. He was always helping whenever and however he could. Rodney was regarded as a good volunteer and cared about helping his community.
Rodney also enjoyed traveling to various campgrounds up and down the East Coast with his wife Shirley in their RV. Many times, you would find them being camp host at numerous state parks throughout the year.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George Davis and Philip Davis as well as great granddaughter Charleigh Jane Shrader all of Hagerstown, Maryland.
Rodney is survived by his loving wife Shirley (Grove) Davis of 22 years, a daughter, Amy (Davis) Gentry, a granddaughter Courtenay Love, a great grandson MJ Shrader, an Aunt and Uncle Janet and Floyd Kennedy and his furbabies, Charlie and Bella.
The family will receive family and friends from 3 to 4pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Memorial Service will begin at 4pm with Pastor Donald Kretzer officiating.
