ROBIN "ROBBIE" POFFENBERGER, 82, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Doeys House in Hagerstown, MD. Born February 29, 1936 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Jacob B. and Mildred (Knodle) Poffenberger. He was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Mary Horn Poffenberger. Robbie was a 1954 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He and his wife Mary founded Robbies Billiard Sales and Service, which he operated until his retirement in 1989. Robbie was a member of the Maryland National Guard from 1953 to 1961. He was a member and supporter of The Humane Society of Washington County, Natural Resources Defense Council, World Wildlife Fund, The Humane Society of Buford County, NC, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, The Nature Conservancy, The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, TN, The Humane Society of The United States and A.A.R.P. Robbie was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Myersville, MD. He was a member of the Washington County Senior Softball League, The Montgomery County Co-Ed Softball League, The Tri-County Senior Softball League, The Montgomery Count Mens 604 League and The Montgomery County Super 70s League. Robbie was a member of World Series Senior Softball, Softball Players Association and Senior Softball U.S.A. He was an avid traveler having toured all 50 states and more than 65 foreign countries on 7 continents. Robbie is survived by his dear friend, Ruth Ann Wallech of Hagerstown, MD; nephews, Paul W. Robbie is also survived by his special friends, Terry and Donna Bitner of Hagerstown, MD; Lisa Poffenberger of Hagerstown, MD and his faithful feline companion, Lady. In addition to his parents and wife, Robbie was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Zajicek; three brothers, Robert Poffenberger; Ronald Poffenberger and Raymond Poffenberger; a brother-in-law, Charles Horn and three sister-in-laws, Jean Poffenberger; Junia Horn and Doris Mae Poffenberger. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Jurgen Hilke will officiate. Burial will be in St. Johns Lutheran Church Cemetery, Myersville, MD. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21740. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the funeral home.
