Obituary

Robert "Buddy" Howard Nigh, 64, of Funkstown, MD, passed away on Monday June 12, 2023.

Born November 3, 1958, he was the son of the late Richard "Dick" Nigh & June A. (Davis) Nigh. He is survived by one sister, Barbara J. Tingle of Hagerstown, MD, one son, Brandon Nigh & wife Brittany of Funkstown, MD, and one daughter, Brittany Nigh & husband Brent Shaffer of Hagerstown, MD. Three grandchildren, Ella Saunders of Hagerstown, MD and Bryce & Brody Shaffer of Hagerstown, MD.

He attended South Hagerstown High School and later obtained his GED. He was a manager at both McDonald's and Burger King during the 70's. He worked as a Correctional Officer with the State of Maryland at MCI in Hagerstown, MD for 21 years. He retired in 2004 and started a new and very different journey in delivering flowers for Rosemary's Florist in Williamsport, MD until 2008.

He was well known for being an original "Funkstown Boy". He took so much pride in that title. He loved the town of Funkstown. From being raised in the town, raising his children in the town, drinking beers at the Funkstown Tavern, to attending the Funkstown Legion baseball games.

He was best known as being the lead singer in his band, 3 Gun Louie, or so he thought. He had a love for music & believe it or not, I've heard that he really could carry a tune. He was lucky enough to have shared his band days with so many close friends & not one, but two wives. He had long blonde hair and a killer smile. He was quite the charmer. If you wanted to have a good time, he was the one to call. He truly believed in "Rock & Roll" forever.

He was an avid fan of sports. He loved the Baltimore Orioles, the Washington Redskins and the Maryland Terrapins. He attended Nascar races in Martinsville, VA, Richmond, VA & Dover, DE with some of his close buddies and his son. He would travel to Ashburn, VA for Redskin's training camp, always making a stop at the Buffalo Wing Factory. He participated in Fantasy football leagues when he had the chance. He was very superstitious when it came to sports & his teams winning. If he was talking to you on the phone during a game and his team was losing, he would never call you again during a game. If he did talk to you during a game, consider yourself important. He would end hours long conversations because "the orioles were coming on".

One of his favorite past times, was watching the Antique's Road Show, Ghost Hunters & competing with the contestants on Jeopardy. He was a man full of knowledge. Most of it might have been useless, but nevertheless, it was useful when needed. He loved his heritage and he loved History. He loved being an American and never let it be hidden of his Republican opinions. He was one of the funniest people you would ever meet. Good jokes, bad jokes, dad jokes, inappropriate jokes, he made sure if you were in his presence, you would be laughing.

Buddy wore many hats during his short time here on earth. Cub scout, boy scout, ornery hometown boy, even more ornery teenager, singer, charmer, comedian, drinking buddy, sports fanatic, best friend, husband (three times), son, brother, "pappy buddy", but the most important title to him was Father. He adored his children. Brandon inherited his love of history, sports, useful & useless knowledge and unfortunately, his baldness. Brittany inherited his sense of humor, both appropriate and inappropriate as well as his good looks. Buddy may be gone but his memory will live on forever through them.
