Robert Valentine Moats, Jr, 79, of Mount Airy, MD, formerly of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 at Levindale Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Born February 18, 1939 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Marie C. (Poligardo) and Robert V. Moats, Sr. Robert retired from MCTC. He was the owner of the 7-11 on Virginia Avenue and Frederick Street. He also owned the Moats Hobby Center that was on the top floor of the Valley Mall, and also on Dual Highway. He was a member of the American Legion in Funkstown, MD and Greencastle, PA and a lifetime member of the NRA. He is survived by his two daughters, Tonia M. Horst, and M. Anneliese Moats; two sons, Robert V. Moats III and Kurt W. Moats; and three grandchildren, Kaiden Moats, Kendyl Moats, and Gavin Moats. A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 24 E. Baltimore Street, Funkstown, MD. Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate.
