Robert Knowles Hobbs, MD, 85, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Thursday evening, July 17, 2025, at his home.

Born January 2, 1940, in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late Ralph Brenneman and Mary Elizabeth (Blanning) Hobbs.

Bob was a graduate of Oberlin College and WVU Medical School. He practiced orthopedic medicine at Washington County Hospital for 25 years. He served in Vietnam as a Naval Flight Surgeon for a Marine Air Wing in 1967-1968.

Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman locally and worldwide with a special love for Vancouver Island, BC. In retirement, he took up gardening and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors, especially his tomatoes. He enjoyed woodworking and helped build special need ramps for MIH.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjie; his daughter, Melissa Hobbs (Vijay); son, Robert K. Hobbs, III; two precious granddaughters, Margaret and Raina; a sister, Elizabeth Nordeen; a brother, William Hobbs, MD; and niece, Beth.

At Doc's request, there will be no services. A memorial gathering will be held later at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in his name to the Maryland Symphony Orchestra Endowment Fund, 363 S. Cleveland Ave., Ste 200, Hagerstown, MD 21740 would be greatly appreciated to make music live for all.
