Obituary

Robert Lowell (Bob) Firor, 70, a native of Frederick, Maryland, died on June 14 of lung diseases at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Bob worked for IBM in Washington, DC, Rockville and Hagerstown for 25 years. Before joining IBM in 1968, he sold cars for Ford in Frederick and enjoyed introducing the first Mustangs; his personal enthusiasm for the car earned him top salesman awards. Earlier, Bob owned the Presidential Construction Company that developed and sold the first homes in Eastview. After retiring, he ran a contracting business for several years, primarily preparing homes for resale. In recent years Bob and Vicki resided in Hagerstown. Since childhood he and his family enjoyed a summer cottage on the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County. A life-long fan of boats, he had owned several and had belonged to the Baltimore Yacht Club. Friends remember Bob best for his unflagging good humor and helpfulness. A perfectionist to the end, many will miss his unique gift for knowing the right way to do anything. Son of the late Robert M. and Evelyn Firor, also of Frederick, he is survived by his wife of 45 years Victoria Bennett Firor, his son and daughter Robert M. Firor, II of Emittsburg and Aimee Firor McBride and her husband David McBride of Baltimore, a 6-month-old grandson Kalen Firor McBride, a sister Jane Firor of Washington, DC and a foster-brother Ed Routzahn of Frederick. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 19 at the Frederick Elks Club, 289 Willowdale Drive (at Shookstown Road). Internment will be private. Instead of flowers, the family requests that tributes take the form of contributions in Bob's memory to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation at the Philip Merrill Environmental Ctr, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis MD 21403; or to the Salvation Army, PO Box 1003 Frederick MD 21705 or PO Box 747, Hagerstown MD
