ROBERT L. CARPENTER, SR., of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at Williamsport Retirement Village. Born, Aug 1, 1929, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Amos and Jennie Klinefelter Carpenter. Robert worked at Fairchild Aircraft for 10 years, and Mack Trucks for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Mack Golden Bulldogs. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith "Pat" Shank Carpenter; two daughters, Karen L. Carpenter Wetzel and husband Albert of Hagerstown, MD, Donna L. Carpenter Marchick and husband Robert of Rockville, MD; son, Robert L. Carpenter, Jr. and wife Michele of Great Falls, VA; eight grandchildren, Julie Marchick Van der Waag and husband Robert, Kristin Carpenter Mansolillo and husband Joey, Kelley Carpenter, Jason Wetzel and wife Chelsea, Andrew Wetzel, Michael Marchick and wife Kendra, Michael Ortlani, and Neil Ortlani; four great-grandchildren, Owen, Nathan, Matthew and Garrett. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Louise Ditmer, and brother, Lawrence Carpenter. The service will be Friday, Feb 7, 2014, 1 pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Don Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be at Shanktown Cemetery, Big Pool, MD. The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 from 6-8pm and one hour prior to the service.
