Obituary

Robert Edward Foltz, Sr, 91, of Hagerstown, MD, went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, February 6, 2025. He was born in Hagerstown, MD on October 8, 1933, to the late Edgar M. Foltz, Sr., and Margaret B. Bailey Foltz.

Bob was a 1951 graduate of Hagerstown High School, working briefly at Eyerly's Department Store before officially starting his career with the C&P Telephone Company of Maryland in March of 1952. Bob is a decorated Korean War Veteran and enlisted in the US Army after receiving his draft notice on April of 1953. He proudly served our country in the US Army from 1953 to 1956 and was stationed in various bases across the US for communications training before receiving his deployment to Army Security Agency (ASA) Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan on January 3, 1954 and then serving in the ASA 8603rd Field Station in Okinawa, Japan where he met the love of his life on November 20, 1955. Masako Shimizu eventually became his wife on December 20, 1956. He went back to work at the C&P Telephone Company of Maryland in 1956 and continued his military service by serving in the US Army Reserves from 1956 to 1961, and the US Air Force Reserves from 1961 to 1964.

In 1963 Bob came back into fellowship with the Lord and along with his wife dedicated their lives toward raising their four children in a Christian home where each one accepted Jesus as their Savior at early ages. He continued serving the Lord at Maranatha Brethren Church as an Adult Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and Sunday School Superintendent and continued to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ throughout all his years. He had a fondness and respect for eagles and Isaiah 40:31 became his favorite verse "…but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." The eagle is the only bird who will face the storm head on, wait for it and let the wind carry it above the storm. In this we learn that God will never grow tired or weary, that He will give us strength while facing any storm if we rely on Him to get us through it.

His legacy lives on in the hearts and memories of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and each can attest to the unconditional love he showed throughout his life to his family and those he loved. He is preceded in death by his brother, Edgar Maurice Foltz, Jr., his sister, Janice E. Foltz Holden and his dear wife, Masako Shimizu Foltz. He is survived by his four children, Robert E. Foltz, Jr and wife Janeen, Jerri Pelletier, Carol Churchey and husband, Chris, Lori Boutieller and husband, Eric; his nine grandchildren, Christopher R. Churchey and wife, Lauren, Lindsey Powis and husband Jeremy, Bobby James Pelletier and wife, Janna, Bryan Churchey and fiancée Stephanie Savo, E.J. Boutieller, Jacob Boutieller, Tatyana Boutieller, Robert E. Foltz III, and Kaiya Foltz; and his five great-grandchildren, Claire Elizabeth Churchey, Carter James Pelletier, Ryleigh Grace Pelletier, Kelsey Lynn Pelletier and Judah Kai Powis.
